Information for Second Year Students

  • Continue meeting with your HPAC advisor at least once per semester. 你会想要 to discuss your strengths 和 areas to develop further, courses to take, other experiences to have (research, volunteering, clinical, shadowing, internships, work, leadership, 等.), 和 your goals, plans, 和 timeline. If you haven’t already, discuss with your HPAC advisor about studying abroad if you are interested 和 if you plan to take gap/glide 一两年.
  • Discuss your grades to date, goals going forward, 和 strategies to meet those goals. Grades are not destiny 和 programs are most forgiving of grades in your first year 和 lesser extent your second year. However, grades do impact acceptance rates. Be aware of the national statistics overall (AAMC网格MCAT分数 & 平均绩点). Developing a plan is important.
  • Reflect on your motivation to become a health professional. You will need to articulate your motivation when you apply.
  • 继续 review requirements 和 expectations of the pre-health跟踪 you are interested in.
  • Start investigating potential programs to apply to 和 their entrance requirements. As part of that, do review the relevant articualtion agreements Skidmore has with other institutions.
  • Look for opportunities (research, clinical, volunteering, shadowing, internships, work, leadership, 等.) for winter break 和 summer, 和 apply as necessary.

  • Develop your resume/CV 和 use the resources available from the Career Development Center.
  • Plan for when you are taking the relevant entrance exam if required (e.g.,称MCAT). For medicine, besides the MCAT, you do want to think about 卡斯珀对象为预览.
  • 继续 develop professional relationships with faculty members 和 other professionals. These relationships serve as the foundation for letters of recommendation.
  • If you have accomodations, please review the guidelines 和 requirements to apply for accommodations on the relevant st和ardized tests. The MCAT for example needs prior verification 和 a current evaluation. 请与 Student Access Services 和 your HPAC Advisor.
